Our Greatest Years Are Ahead- Reflections on America’s 250th Independence Day

Greetings,

From the historic streets of London this week, visiting our daughter, Saramelia, and joined by our daughter Annia and son, Luis Jorge, the 250th anniversary of American independence feels both remarkably distant and deeply personal.

It is uniquely profound for our family to celebrate this milestone from the very place where America’s paths toward sovereignty first diverged.

Looking out at this city, the weight of two and a half centuries—of the ideals fought for and the republic sustained—becomes tangible. Distance provides a vantage point that brings the true magnitude of the American experiment into focus.

Merely, 250 years after the Declaration was signed, we remain a young nation—vibrant, restless, and unencumbered by the calcified traditions of the Old World. It is this very youth, with its infinite capacity for reinvention, that convinces us our best days are not behind us, but unfolding before us.

At 250, America has weathered both triumph and failure, yet it has always carried the divine spark of renewal as a Nation under God!

Marile and I remind our children what our parents taught us—freedom is a responsibility as much as it is a gift.

Our family’s journey to America was driven by the search for a future free of tyranny and the chance to live free, to worship openly, and to raise children who would never have to fear the knock of persecution. That inheritance is a sacred trust.

The work of keeping that gift alive belongs to every parent, every neighbor, and every citizen bound by the promise of a more perfect union. It belongs to those who refuse to grow cynical and instead choose to believe in the promise they have inherited and fought for.

A Prayer for Our Nation

On this milestone Independence Day, we join our fellow Americans in a prayer of gratitude and petition:

May our Heavenly Father will sanctify our country and guide our steps;

That He will protect our military and all who serve the cause of liberty;

That we may be made agents of peace, reconciliation, and hope;

And that we remain ever thankful for the gift of freedom—and ever vigilant in its defense.

Amen.

May you and your families enjoy a safe, blessed, and meaningful Independence Day.

God bless you, and God bless these United States of America.
