Writing to you from London, where we are visiting our daughter, Saramelia, as she studies at King’s College, the world feels both vast and incredibly small.
Even from this distance, our thoughts remain firmly with our community in South Florida and the families suffering in Venezuela—following the earthquakes on June 24. The destruction across Caracas, La Guaira, and surrounding communities is heartbreaking.
This tragedy hits close to home.
Our dearest friends, Gabriela and Juan Jose, along with so many other Venezuelan families we hold dear in South Florida, have been working tirelessly since the first moments.
Their strength and generosity in the face of this adversity have been a profound reminder of the resilience of the human spirit.
At the same time, we are deeply moved by the broader wave of compassion and coordinated action taking shape. These responses reflect the best of human solidarity and the enduring commitment to serve those in need.
Here are meaningful ways we can all help right now:
Support Miami-led Relief: Miami is stepping up with practical, immediate help. Doral Mayor Christy Fraga and the City have partnered with Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) to ship essential supplies, supported by the Inter Miami CF Foundation.

Support Catholic Relief Services: The Holy Father Pope Leo has sent an initial emergency gift to support relief efforts, and faith-inspired organizations with long-standing presence in the region — including Caritas networks and Catholic Relief Services — are working alongside local partners to provide shelter, food, water, and medical care.
