Happy Thursday — We hope our newest #ThankfulThursday finds you well…
Today, November 7th we celebrate and reflect on national #ProtectPressFreedom day.
Marile and I value and support the principal that in order to remain a free nation, we must be informed.
We share the belief that it’s critical that press freedom is kept at the forefront of our conversation and that we, inspire and engage the public about the value of a free press and the critical purpose journalists serve in our democracy.
At a time when threats to press freedom are emerging like never before, our support is even more critical.
That is why we support the work of Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press — and it’s mission of defending the First Amendment freedoms and the news-gathering rights of journalists.
Next week, Marile and I will be hosting a private reception to learn more about the the work of Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press — featuring insightful discussions with distinguished speakers:
Alberto Ibargüen, President & CEO of the Knight Foundation
Manny Garcia, Ethics & Standards Editor – USA Today & RCFP Steering Committee Member
Julie K. Brown, Investigative Reporter – Miami Herald
Katie Townsend, RCFP Legal Director
Bruce Brown, RCFP Executive Director
All funds raised will further the mission of the Reporters Committee and will go towards the $10 million match grant awarded by the Knight Foundation.

The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press was founded by leading journalists and media lawyers in 1970 when the nation’s news media faced an unprecedented wave of government subpoenas forcing reporters to name confidential sources. Today it provides pro bono legal representation, amicus curiae support, and other legal resources to protect First Amendment freedoms and the newsgathering rights of journalists.
Please keep in mind, your tax-deductible donation supports RCFP lawyers as they fight to protect the rights of journalists to gather and report the news, defend reporters from being forced to reveal confidential sources and push back against government agencies when they refuse to turn over public information that’s key to keeping you informed.
As always, thank you for taking the time to reflect with us.
Know we cherish your friendship and continued support.
Warmest personal regards,
Marile & Jorge Luis Lopez, Esq.
