On this #ThankfulThursday, we take a moment from our visit with Sarameli and Annia in Paris to reflect and celebrate Katherine Fernandez Rundle’s leadership and service on the occasion of her Investiture Ceremony as Miami-Dade State Attorney on February 18, 2025.
Making Miami-Dade Safer
Thanks to Kathy’s tireless efforts, close collaboration with law enforcement and investment in proactive crime prevention strategies our community is safer for all. Recent reports from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office highlight that Miami-Dade County has experienced significant reductions in crime.
A Legacy of Justice and Reform
Since Kathy’s appointment in 1993 as the first Cuban-American State Attorney in Florida, Katherine has led with vision, dedication, and compassion.
Throughout her distinguished career, Kathy has been a recognized advocate and pioneer for justice with initiatives such as Florida’s first Domestic Violence Unit, Human Trafficking Task Force and Miami-Dade’s diversion programs, including the Adult Drug Court, that have reduced recidivism rates, providing second chances for thousands of individuals seeking to rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society.
A Personal Note of Gratitude
Beyond the statistics and initiatives, Kathy’s impact is deeply personal to us. Our children, AR, Saramelia and Luis Jorge, had the incredible opportunity to intern with the State Attorney’s Office, gaining firsthand experience in the pursuit of justice and the commitment required to serve the public.
They were fortunate to work alongside Kathy’s team of Assistant State Attorneys–committed young professionals, working long hours, driven by their passion for public service and dedication to upholding justice for victims and their families.
Reflecting on Kathy’s remarkable accomplishments, we also acknowledge the personal and familial sacrifices that have enabled her unwavering commitment to public service.
We wholeheartedly support Kathy and her tireless dedication. We are confident that her leadership will continue to foster a safer and more just Miami-Dade.
