Greetings Friends, Clients & Colleagues,
Marile and I hope our message finds you and yours safe and well.
Today, we are reaching out with a profound sense of urgency regarding the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa on Jamaica and several Caribbean islands. This catastrophic Category 5 storm, with sustained winds of 160 mph, has unleashed its fury, leaving an unimaginable trail of destruction.
Homes have been obliterated, vital infrastructure crippled, and entire communities submerged by unprecedented flooding. The widespread power outages and dangerous conditions have put countless lives at immediate risk, and the long-term recovery will be immense.
Our hearts ache for those who have lost everything, and we pray for strength and resilience for all affected.
Red Cross teams have been on high alert for a week, with 400 dedicated volunteers strategically positioned and ready to dispatch once weather conditions permit. They are prepared to provide immediate shelter, nourishing food, clean water, and critical medical care to those in desperate need.
As long-time Red Cross volunteers, donors, and former Board members, Marile, our children, and I have witnessed firsthand the indispensable role the Red Cross plays in disaster relief. Their rapid response and unwavering commitment save lives and offer hope in the darkest of times.
