Happy Ethical Governance Day!
Today, Marile and I congratulate our friends, clients and colleagues taking part in the annual Miami-Dade County “Ethical Governance Day”.
As you may know, The Miami-Dade Commission on Ethics & Public Trust was created in 1996 as a result of a citizens’ vote to amend the Home Rule charter. As an independent agency with advisory and quasi-judicial powers — it is dedicated to bolstering public trust in the administration of government by informing the public and private sectors about the laws and seeking strict compliance with them.
Accordingly, for the past 8 years, The Miami-Dade Commission on Ethics & Public Trust has partnered with Miami-Dade Public Schools to place local leaders into high school classrooms to discuss the importance of civic participation and engagement as part of “Ethical Governance Day.”
This year, civic leaders — public officials, judges, attorneys, and community leaders with government and/or civic experience will again take part in this countywide event by sharing their knowledge and personal insights with the next generation of voters — as a means of promoting better and more ethical government.
We commend the professional team and members of The Miami-Dade Commission on Ethics & Public Trust for their vision and commitment to this very worthwhile, non-partisan project which has truly helped “improve the civic life of our community by reaching out to the future generation of voters.”
Speakers emphasize the importance of respecting the right of every individual to engage in civil dialogue on important public issues and our duty as citizens to vote. As well as the importance of what it means to govern ethically and that government employees and officials have a special duty to serve the public in a fair and just manner.
Each true and inspiring testimonial will show our next generation the direct relationship between honest, accountable leadership and the quantifiable benefits to the community and the people they serve.
Congratulations to all involved and Godspeed on another very successful Miami-Dade County “Ethical Governance Day”.
Warmest personal regards,
Marile & Jorge Luis Lopez, Esq.
