Today, as we celebrate Columbus Day, Marile and I pause to reflect on the meaning of discovery—both in history and in our own lives.
More than five centuries ago, Christopher Columbus set sail across an uncharted ocean, guided by determination and faith. His voyage forever changed history and laid the foundation for a new world. But beyond the historical milestone, his story reminds us of something deeper: that every great journey begins with a single, courageous step—and that vision, perseverance, and faith can illuminate even the most uncertain paths.
Journeys of Faith and Family
This year has been one of meaningful journeys for our family. Our pilgrimage to Rome for the Jubilee gave us the chance to walk in the footsteps of countless faithful who, like Columbus, were guided by belief in a mission greater than themselves. Standing in Saint Peter’s Basilica and walking the ancient streets of the Eternal City, we were reminded that discovery is not only about finding new lands—it is about rediscovering purpose, hope, and renewal in our faith and in our families.
That journey deepened our appreciation for how faith shapes every step we take, whether across oceans, through history, or into a new season of life. Each of us is called to be an explorer in our own way—seeking growth, meaning, and courage to chart the course ahead.
Carrying the Spirit Forward
As our children pursue their own paths, Marile and I see in them that same spirit of discovery.
- Sararmelia continues her studies at King’s College London, embracing new cultures and challenges abroad.
- Luis builds his knowledge and character at the University of Miami, growing roots close to home.
- AR carries forward a legacy of advocacy by joining me at the firm, dedicating himself to law and service.
- Carlos transforms ideas into impact through CyberSphere Solutions, turning vision into reality with innovation and entrepreneurship.
- Annia brings creativity and leadership to Maria Elena Headpieces, guiding its marketing with passion and purpose.
Each of them is navigating their own sea—facing challenges, embracing opportunities, and discovering their own horizons. Watching them move forward with determination fills us with gratitude and pride. Just as Columbus showed centuries ago, progress comes not from standing still but from daring to journey into the unknown.
